HONG KONG – A man died when his Tesla 2 car rolled over onto its side at a race track, an accident that left the man’s girlfriend badly injured.
The car, owned by Taiwanese company Tesla Motors, collided with a pole at a racetrack in Shanghai early Saturday, police said.
The driver, identified as Zhao Feng, 58, suffered a head injury, according to the China Association of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers and Traders.
Police said the woman, surnamed Zhao, suffered serious injuries and died at a hospital.
Tesla said it would cover the driver’s medical costs, while the owner of the car was not named.
The Tesla Model S electric sedan was being driven on a track owned by the Taiwan Automobile Industry Association when the accident happened, according the company.
